The consortium put together partners with expertise and a track record in services and projects in the field of MIS training and in the medical field, as well as with experience in EU projects and project management. Specifically:

  • Training expertise in the field of surgery and MIS.
  • Profound knowledge of the training needs of medical students and surgeons through a direct relationship with them.
  • Specific skills and knowledge in the development of serious games, ICT based learning platforms and real-time tool tracking.

 

 

 CCMIJU

[Coordinator] Centro de Cirugía de Mínima Invasión Jesús Usón

The Jesús Usón Minimally Invasive Surgery Centre (CCMIJU) is a multidisciplinary institution dedicated to excellence in research and training in minimally invasive surgical techniques. The CCMIJU offers a sequential model of accredited training and it is an exceptional environment for surgical training, with more than 1500 attendants from more than 15 countries around de world in over 120 training activities every year.Within KTS project, CCMIJU will be the leader partner so it will undertake the coordination of the project and the quality management (work packages 1 and 2, respective). It will participate in user requirements definition of work package 3, carrying out the co-creation workshop in Spain. It will participate in the serious game development by working in collaboration with P5 in the real-time tracking of the surgical instruments (work packages 4 and 5). It will coordinate the validation phase (work package 6) and will carry out the validation tests in Spain. Finally, it will participate in the dissemination and exploitation activities (work packages 7 and 8, respectively).

 

ISTT

Innovative Surgical Training Technologies – Hochschule für Technik, Wirtschaft und Kultur Leipzig

The Leipzig University of Applied Sciences Leipzig (HTWK Leipzig) is the most important University of Applied Sciences in Saxony. Within it, ISTT research and develop innovative solutions for surgical training with the following sub-objectives: 1) innovative mechatronic simulation systems; 2) innovative training operating rooms; 3) innovative surgical training concepts; and 4) ergonomics and quality management in the operating room.Within KTS project, ISTT will be leader of the serious game architecture definition (work package 3) and the exploitation work package. It will also participate by carrying out the co-creation workshop and validation trials in Germany (work packages 3 and 6, respectively).

Avaca Technologies S.A. (AT) is an ISO certified independent software development house and IT integrator based in Athens, Greece and provides consulting, informatics and engineering services. It is a fast growing company which currently employees 17 persons and has developed a significant list of clients across many industries and market sectors and is a member of the Greek Chamber of Industry.AVACA will be the technical coordinator of the project, assisting the Project Coordinator. It will be mainly responsible for the development of the serious game (work package 5) but will be also involved in the user requirements definition and the validation trials (work packages 3 and 6, respectively). As the rest of partners, it will also collaborate with the dissemination and exploitation activities (work packages 7 and 8, respectively).

Department of Surgical Research and Techniques – Semmelweis University

With an over 240-year-old tradition of academic excellence, Semmelweis University is widely recognised as one of Europe’s leading centres of medicine. The University embraces nearly 12,500 students from 64 nations around the world; foreign students account for nearly a quarter of the total student body. The Department of Surgical Research and Techniques, Semmelweis University (DSRT-SU) is dedicated to multispecialty research, education and training focused on minimally invasive techniques.

As WP3 Leader, DSRT-SU will provide information about training medical student and organizing the local co-creation workshop. They will provide input for the definition of the KTS training from a content and learning perspective and will provide input for the assessment methods. DSRT-SU will conduct tests on the KTS test release and document issues which will then provide to lead partner for screening, contribute to the dissemination plan and carry out dissemination strategies on regional and national level as well as contribute actively to the contents of the dissemination tools, website and newsletters.

Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) is the oldest and largest of the Spanish Technical Universities. It has more than 200 Research Units and several Research Institutes and Technological Centres. The Biomedical Engineering and Telemedicine Centre (GBT) of UPM is the leading centre for education, research and technological development focused on bioengineering; mostly concerned with the application of information and communication technologies to biomedicine.

The GBT-UPM experience related to the project can be structured in several areas such as:

  • Analysis of training and technical requirements
  • Real-time tracking of surgical tools by means of video processing.
  • Technical validation of the KTS.
  • Dissemination and exploitation activities.  

 

MEDIS

MEDIS Foundation

The foundation was created in 1999 under the shape of a non-governmental organisation, primarily oriented towards the Continuous Medical Education activity and for this reason the Medis Foundation is accredited as CME provider, by the Romanian National College of Physicians.

Medis Foundation will be the leader of the dissemination work package and will actively contribute to the rest of work packages. It will provide direct access to surgeons for the co-creation workshop and validation trials in Romania.
